Pool Based Hydrotherapy
Pool-Based Hydrotherapy for Dogs — Coming Soon to Pawsitive Relief
Enhance Your Dog’s Health with Pool-Based Hydrotherapy
At Pawsitive Relief, we’re committed to providing comprehensive, evidence-based rehabilitation for dogs living with pain, mobility challenges, or those needing structured fitness support. We’re thrilled to share that pool-based hydrotherapy is coming soon to our new branch clinic also based in County Durham.
While this service is not yet available, we’re busy behind the scenes preparing a purpose-built, heated hydrotherapy pool designed specifically for dogs — offering a safe and comfortable space to heal, move, and enjoy.
💧 What Is Pool-Based Hydrotherapy?
Pool-based hydrotherapy involves guided swimming in warm water, allowing dogs to exercise without placing stress on their joints. It is ideal for rehabilitation, pain management, and whole-body fitness — and is also fantastic for boosting confidence in dogs who enjoy the water.
Hydrotherapy in a pool is especially beneficial for dogs with:
Arthritis or joint stiffness
Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD)
Hip or elbow dysplasia
Cruciate ligament injury or recovery
Obesity or muscle loss
Post-operative orthopaedic conditions
🐕🦺 Coming Soon: Fun & Fitness Swims Too!
In addition to clinical rehabilitation sessions, we’re also excited to offer fun and fitness swims — perfect for:
High-energy dogs needing safe cross-training
Canine athletes or working breeds building endurance
Confident swimmers looking for enrichment and movement
Dogs needing mental stimulation in a controlled, positive environment
These swims are non-clinical but fully supervised, with sessions tailored to your dog’s age, ability, and comfort level in water.
✅ Key Benefits of Pool Hydrotherapy
Whether for therapy or fun, pool-based hydrotherapy can:
Promote pain-free movement and flexibility
Encourage weight loss and build muscle
Support cardiovascular fitness
Improve coordination and balance
Provide physical and mental stimulation
Help dogs feel happier, calmer, and more mobile
📝 Referrals & Suitability
To ensure the safety and suitability of all dogs using our hydrotherapy pool:
All dogs attending for medical/rehabilitation swims (e.g. post-surgery, neurological conditions, arthritis) will require a full rehabilitation evaluation by one of our veterinary rehabilitation clinicians prior to starting therapy.
Dogs attending for fun or fitness swims must have a completed veterinary consent form confirming that they are fit to swim and have no known medical concerns that would make hydrotherapy unsuitable.
This process helps us ensure that every swim is safe, appropriate, and tailored to each individual dog’s health status and goals.
📅 When Will It Be Available?
We’re working hard to finalise our new hydrotherapy pool and plan to launch very soon. If you’d like to be among the first to know when bookings open for rehabilitation sessions or fun swims, you can register your interest here or follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
